Hey there! As of late, I’ve been more and more interested in building my own guitar amplifier. Not some little beginner one though; I want to essentially build an early 1970s HiWatt DR103. Now, I know a great big 100W tube amplifier isn’t ideal for a beginner, but I’ve never been one to back down from a challenge. I feel like it will be more simple than something like a JCM-800 like I originally planned to do, since there’s no gain stage or reverb or anything in the DR103, which is incidentally what attracted me to it. I feel like having an amazing clean tone that you can add to with pedals is the best way to go, for me anyways. Besides this, I really enjoy building and creating things myself. I’ve done little things like fully wiring a couple guitars, but not much past that. I was wondering if anyone had any good tips for amp wiring? Like what order to wire things in, or certain components to be especially careful with?
TL;DR: Never wired an amp before. Anything I should know before going in?
